Bicentennial Quilt

Scenes of Monroe

This twenty-six-block quilt is the result of a town-wide contest conducted by the Society under the leadership of Joan Sondergaard. It measures 84" x 100" and is backed with muslin. Countless hours were spent appliqueing each block depicting a moment from Monroe's history. The blocks are described beginning at the top left of the quilt.

This schoolhouse was moved from East Village to Wheeler Road by theHistorical Society where it was restored to its original 1790 condition. Since its dedication in 1793 it has been visited by countless school children from Monroe and neighboring communities.
