Schoolhouse

The East Village-Barn Hill Schoolhouse was restored by the Monroe Historical Society and is open by appointment for school classes and organizations.

Teachers may schedule a date to bring their students for a day of classes here. A nominal fee is involved for the use of the building.

Front of Room

A real old-fashioned blackboard is the focus of this wall of the schoolhouse. Small slates and slate pencils are available for the students as well as hornbooks and early readers.
fireplace

A working fireplace can be the heat source during winter months. This view also looks into the cloakroom (left of fireplace) and the supply closet (door right of fireplace)
desks

The furniture is made to resemble school desks of the period, but is sturdy enough for today's students to use.
